These are designed for masks in the style of two rectangles gathered on each side of the face. Buy cotton fabric because it is breathable and can be washed at high temperatures. You will also need elastic or strips of an old cotton tshirt Note: There are many great video tutorials online on how to sew if the directions below are hard to follow. Instructions for making your own masks: Cut out one of the rectangles for the front, and a second rectangle of a different cotton fabric for the backing. With the right side of the fabric toward you, pin the end of one piece of elastic in one corner (extending about a centimeter beyond the fabric) and then pin the other end at the corner below it on the short side. Repeat on opposite short side side with second piece of elastic. Place the second rectangle of fabric on top right sides together. Sew around perimeter leaving a 6cm (2") gap — be careful not to catch the elastic except at the corners. Turn and press. Make three gathered pleats on the mask and pin. Top stitch 3mm (1/8") from edge around entire perimeter to secure pleats and close opening. Wear and have fun!
