From bottom left: Medallion 1: Apple blossoms and magnolia blossoms - pictured together these represent a wish for a beautiful, rich, household. A pair of butterflies - joy, warmth, being inseparable, love, and a happy social life. Medallion 2: A pair of Chinese geese - delivery of matrimonial messages, married bliss, and resourcefulness. (the male is slightly larger and has a bigger bump on his head. A pair of cranes flying in the clouds - Clouds are considered lucky, but they are also considered to represent the union of the elements of water and air, and sky and earth. They can, therefore, also symbolize making love as the union of male and female. A crane among clouds symbolizes wisdom. A pair of cranes symbolizes a long marriage and ultimate longevity. Bamboo - luck, endurance, money, longevity, and more. Kumquats and lotus seeds - prosperity. Lotus blossom -enlightenment and good fortune. Stones - permanence, stability, and longevity. Medallion 3: A pair of mandarin ducks - Mandarin ducks are believed to mate for life, therefore they represent fidelity and wedded bliss. I also read that a Chinese proverb compares a loving couple to "two mandarin ducks playing in water". A pair of golden carp (goldfish) - love, domestic felicity, partnership, tenacity, fertility, renewal, and abundance. Seaweed - good luck and exceeding wealth. Water - contemplation, calmness, observation, reflection. A pine tree branch (to represent a pine tree) - longevity. Willow - flexibility, adaptability, bend but not break (a good thing in marriage and family). More stones. The square in the circle: both shapes represent forms of perfection, in fact, in China, the square shape is called a "perfect square". The circle represents the heavens, also oneness and unity, among other meanings. The square represents the Earth, also being grounded and doing what needs to be done to fulfill your dreams. In Chinese art, ancient coins, and charms, the square inside the circle represents heaven and earth together. The 4 Chinese characters are, clockwise from top: "He" - peace/harmony, "Shou" - longevity, "Fu" - prosperity, "Ai" - love. The small character in between the medallions, on the horizontal, is one character for "happiness" and, doubled, "Double happiness" is used for weddings and marriage announcements in China. The flower, in the circle between the medallions on the vertical is a lily, in China a lily represents one hundred years of love.
