Design based on the Red-speckled Parrotfish (Cetoscarus bicolor) 1st described by Rueppell in 1828 (according to: Gerry Allen's 'Marine fishes of the Great Barrier Reef and South-east Asia' published by Periplus Editions, 1997, West Australian Museum; illustrations by Roger Swainston + Jill Ruse). Parrotfish do not have individual teeth but rather a "beak-like structure" - as if the teeth have fused together - so they are nibblers or gnawers rather than biters. They are also incredibly brightly colored, and no art can do justice to their coloration. Nor to the noise they make as they gnaw on coral in the reef. A school of parrotfish can be almost deafening.
