With no load-bearing seams on the bottom of the bag, this is super-solid. I have made about 50 bags with this design, it's super-easy, very sturdy and looks great! Uses almost an entire yard at 42", barely any waste! Talk about ecological. If using the 42" wide woven cotton, you will need 2 yards of 20" sew-in interfacing. If you buy the 54" width heavier fabric (RECOMMENDED), the extra space will be filled with more houndstooth pattern that you may use for various other craft projects.
