My mom lived in West Africa in the 1960s and brought back a trunkful of amazing wax cloth - I've been enchanted by the colors, subjects and slightly mis-aligned style of these fabrics for a long time. And I love watching the bright yellow weaver birds at the zoo, so these African birds -- who make their own sort of fabric -- seemed like the perfect fit for a wax cloth-inspired design.
