Good for interior designers, wallpaper, fabric, home accessories, murals. Detail from an original gouache painting by contemporary wildlife artist Tom Taylor. Tom Taylor is an internationally published artist and author. His wildlife art focuses on portrayals of visual rhythm in nature. His experiences with animals have been extensive beginning with being raised as a kid on a farm where all the farm animals were his best friends. In the early 1970s, he became the sole caretaker of a 500-acre cattle ranch in northern California where his only companions were his cattle dog, his milk cow, his pigs and chickens, his horse, and tending the herd of beef cattle. Wildlife was extensive on the ranch and he studied and drew on his first-hand experience with lions, bobcats, river otters, and birds. In 1978, he lived and worked in Zambia where he was able to enjoy daily views of Africa's wildlife including elephants, hippos, and monkeys on the river about a hundred feet from his patio. Zambia Department of Wildlife Game Guards provided special opportunities in the bush to locate and photograph the remarkable numbers of species. Since 1985, his unique hard-edge minimalist style of painting animals has been internationally licensed for contract application of his images on many retail products. Each product was required to include his signature brand Tom Taylor logo. He provided many original images for the licensees who made their choices and when design repeats were needed, their art department converted his images into design repeats. At the ripe age of 80, creating repeats for Spoonflower application is the first time he has done his own interpretations of repeats. He considers making art is his best medicine and safe place.
