In January of 2019, each family member was asked to write down a goal on how to spend their personal special offering money. After a few days of contemplating, they filled out a label, put it on their special crayon-shaped banks and started planning how they could fill that bank to support their goals. This Pencil Pillow is one of the ways devised to earn money for their goals. Here are the things each child has decided to raise money for. You are AWESOME! DIRECTIONS FOR SEWING 1. Cut out the pencil and eraser cap leaving a quarter inch (1/4”) allowance of white fabric. 2. Fold the pencil so that the correct sides are facing each other in a mirror position (right sides together). 3. Pin fabric to keep it from slipping. 4. Using a half inch (1/2”) seam allowance, stitch from the furthest pencil tip edge to the blue line. Make sure you secure your start and end of the seam. Skip to the next blue line, leaving the space between the blue lines open, and stitch to the end of the eraser. Do not turn the corner and close up the eraser. Avoid stitching over your pins. 5. With a very long stitch length, stitch near the edge (1/4” to 1/2”) of the eraser cap. Do not secure this stitch. 6. Use an iron to crease the eraser cap in half. Fold in half again to make a quarter and crease with iron. 7. Use an iron to crease the pencil in half from the seam. Fold the pencil in half again to make a quarter and crease with iron. 8. With right sides together, line up the crease marks on the eraser cap and the pencil eraser. Pin at the creases. 9. Using the thread strings on the eraser cap, gently scrunch up the eraser cap along the threads until it is equally scrunched and is even with the opening of the pencil eraser. Finish pinning the cap and the pencil together. 10. Using a half inch (1/2”) seam allowance and a normal stitch length, stitch the eraser cap to the pencil eraser. Make sure you secure your start and end of the seam. Avoid stitching over your pins. 11. After you sure all of your pins have been removed, carefully turn the fabric right side out by using the open area of the pencil seam. Use the blunt end of a pencil, crotchet needle or skewer to gently push out the corner seam of the pencil tip. 13. Using the opening in the seam, stuff your pillow with a loose fiber such as Poly-fil. 14. Once the pillow is stuffed how you prefer, stitch closed the seam opening with a ladder stitch. 15. Wash your pillow in cold water with like colors. Dry on medium heat in a dryer.
