’Diamond-pane window pattern geometric by Su_G' (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/4935841): navy on white* 'Op Art' cut out diamonds, commemorating diamond-pane Tudor windows (see below). My entry in Spoonflower's 'Windows' Contest. © Su Schaefer 2015 * NOTE that as Spoonflower does not print white, the white areas will be the base color of the fabric/paper to be printed. 'White on navy Op Art cut out diamonds by Su_G' is a color reversal. Printed beautifully - nice and crisp - on basic cotton at a fairly large scale: each set of nested diamonds is about 2 inches wide by 3 inches long - see thumbnail (double click for a clearer view). These patterns were initially composed of fairly small pieces of glass, as glass was an expensive luxury item and the technology to make larger and more affordable pieces still lay in the future. Before window glass became more widely available, those windows that were filled used oiled parchment, sheets of mica or other alternatives. Shutters were used for unfilled windows as well as to protect those which had the precious glass; and early glass windows were so valuable that they were removed when the owners were not in residence.
