If you go into buildings that are over a century old (particularly mercantile type establishments) you will often see elaborately decorated 3D ceilings. Those (usually copper, though sometimes zinc coated steel) tiles are the inspiration for this series of pseudo 3D line drawings. Each of these designs was drawn by hand, with felt tip pens, scanned, cropped, and then electronically processed with a selection called "emboss". The embossed results (which are black and white) were then colorized to get you the tones you see. (file E132h2d-ch)
