significant manufacturer of grand & elegant automobiles.
The 1951 Hudson Hornet was a streamlined and elegant behemoth in the post war world of automotive design. It was also the beginning of the end of the marque. With the end of the post war auto boom, sales began slipping. Corporate profitability decreased, and the company merged with Nash Kelvinator in 1954, to form American Motors and survive. But Hudson sales did not increase under the new structure, and the Hudson marque was discontinued after the 1957 model year. To me, the Hudson Hornet of this era was their prettiest offering, and, if a Hornet should wish to follow me home, I wouldn't mind if it was one of this model and year. (file w104K-ch, #5369641)
