The Hudson River is a magical arm of the sea -- an estuary where, celebrated fish such as the American shad, the striped bass, the American eel, and the Atlantic Sturgeon come to spawn. These spring migrations -- and the various amazing species that make their journey up the Hudson each year -- are fascinating and worth further reading. This textile pattern is my love letter to the Hudson River and the endangered Atlantic Sturgeon, whose furthest relatives date back to the Triassic period, about 230 million years ago (yes, dinosaurs were around at that time too.) The Atlantic Sturgeon we know today has pretty much remained unchanged for the past, oh, let's say 120 million years! This pattern was originally designed for a paddle board contest, and it makes for really fun kitchen decor, children's clothes and home decor, to name a few possibilities! (Think cushions for your deck or boat!) If you would like this pattern in a different scale or colorway, please message me. I will do my best to work with you. At the end of every year, I will donate the profit I make from sales of this fabric to the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, an organization that has worked hard to protect the Hudson River and its wildlife ever since Pete Seeger founded the organization in 1969. (Follow me on Instagram @victoriabdesign where I will post about my donation each January.) I truly hope this fabric pattern expresses the joy I feel about this majestic waterway and this most ancient of fish species that inhabits its waters, and that it sparks your curiosity to learn more about Hudson River wildlife and how to protect it.
