The combination of the great depression (when people couldn't afford cars) followed by the 1941-1945 war effort (when companies could not make cars for consumer sales) created a huge demand for new motor vehicles in 1946. There were people still depending on 15 year old Model A Fords as daily drivers. Into that void stepped Kaiser, with a new 1947 car for those new buyers. The major American car companies pretty much changed some trim on their 1942 models and picked up auto production in 1946 as if it were 1942 1/2. Their entirely new cars did not appear until 1949 and even 1950. But the smaller indies could get new designs into production faster, and Kaiser was one of the first with an all new 1947 car. They sold them as fast as they could make them. But when production finally caught up with demand, and not every car had two buyers clamoring to get it, despite the creative and graceful arched roofline, heart top front windshield, and sleek lines that you can see in this 1953 model, Kaiser couldn't compete. The last Kaisers were 1955 models. (file w10P, #5371193)
