Appledore House hotel in Maine.
American Impressionist artist Childe Hassam's painting of 19th century American poet Celia Thaxter's lush cutting (flower) garden at The Appledore House hotel in Maine. During his stays on Appledore Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, New Hampshire, Hassam made multiple paintings of this magnificent wildflower garden. Lush red poppies and tangled foliage, provided a wonderful contrast to the weathered terrain of the island, in particular the view of bleached Babb's Rock and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
