Day Turns to Night Fabric byedsel2084

I have only experienced a total solar eclipse once in my life. I was about ten years old. My family and I had gone for lunch at Gino's (the Delaware Valley USA fast food franchise that had the rights to sell Kentucky Fried Chicken) and so I was sitting in the back seat of our family Edsel, with my fried chicken, when the mid day twilight began. I saw a bird land on a tree near the car, and tuck its head under its wing. Then it got dark, but not dark like night. It was like some other worldly darkness, with multiple shadows on the ground. Truly eerie. Though everybody had told me that I must not look at the sun, because I would go blind if I did, I decided to take just one lightning fast glance. The sight of sunlight streaming out of a black hole in the sky was beyond anything I had ever seen before or since. It didn't burn onto my retina, but it is burned into my memory. I have not decided yet if I will drive 1000 miles north to experience that again. Though I still have that family Edsel, it will not be going, nor will I be getting any KFC chicken. But I would probably take the same fast peek at the hole that sucks the sun from the sky. (file QP086a4-ch, #6598200)
