printmaking, then scanned to create the digital pattern.
The pattern was inspired by patchwork quilt patterns and was created by digitally scanning a handmade block print. Relief printmaking is a process where a block is carved, inked and printed. The image is created by rolling ink over the surface of the block and then creating an impression by pressing the block on paper or fabric. All of my designs begin with a hand carved block that is then printed by hand. I later scan the pattern to create the digital design. The block print creates a handmade quality to the pattern that breaks up the clean geometry and minimal design to give the fabric a handmade, bohemian feel.
