This design is the extant hominidae (great ape) family - homo (human), pan (chimpanzee), gorilla and pongo (orangutan). Other former members are extinct. The shield is party per cross or into gules and sable. The quarters are charged with example species skulls and genus names. The cross is decorated with strands of DNA. The crest background is a partly peeled banana.
