Jacks are swift predators prized by fishermen for their fighting ability. Most feed on fish and may hunt singly or in schools. This is the giant trevally (Caranx ignoblis). It is the largest of all jacks reaching up to 5.5 feet and nearly 200 pounds. Found throughout the Indo-Pacific, it is called 'ulua' in Hawaii and has been historically revered for its warrior-like qualities. They are seldom seen by divers in the main Hawaiian islands due to overfishing (I've only seen 2 on Oahu -- not counting those at the Waikiki Aquarium!), but large schools are common in the protected northwestern chain (Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument). scale: 525dpi
