A bit of Fabric recovered from the ship burial, discovered in August 1903 - The Oseberg Ship. the ship and it's known history can be seen at; http://www.khm.uio.no/ The practice of illustration of archaeological finds was one of the best means of showing the extremely delicate artifacts. The main Illustrator for many of the fabrics ( and assorted other finds) was Sofie Kraft. Working in the 1930's she was instrumental in attempting to convey both the form, weaves, and the remaining colors. This fabric is as close as I can come to Sofie Kraft's work. To see more and learn about the advanced skills of the creators from the artifacts I recommend " The textiles in the Oseberg ship" by Anne Stine Ingstad ;(http://www.forest.gen.nz/Medieval/articles/Oseberg/textiles/TEXTILE.HTM )
