Gaff-rigged skiffs, racing. Entry in the Sailing (palette-restricted) Contest. © Su Schaefer 2013

Gaff-rigged skiffs, racing. I've been fascinated by the shape of these boats ever since I saw one in a 1930s picture on the brag wall of the Sydney Flying Squadron (Australia's oldest open boat sailing club). Modern racing skiffs are a wonderful sight on Sydney Harbour - looking like a flight of water-borne butterflies. Currently set LARGER @ Fabric: 450 ppi (was at a very SMALL SCALE 900 ppi) - contact me before ordering if you'd like the scale changed - comment below. 'Traditional sailor's jersey stripes' (http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/699292) is a coordinating stripe for this design. See other sailing designs by Su_G. (http://spoonflower.com/profiles/su_g?shop_selection=tag&tag=sailing) The 18 ft Skiff is considered the fastest class of sailing skiffs and has a long racing history, beginning on Sydney Harbour, Australia in 1892 and a bit later in New Zealand. Although the boat has changed significantly since then, with many technological innovations, the class is popular with sailors of modern 18 ft skiffs looking for a challenge because "modern boats have become too easy to sail" (quoting John Winning, a class champion) (Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/18ft_Skiff)). Hand drawn and line art, designed as a basic repeat. [Currently set LARGER @ Fabric: 450 ppi, Wallpaper: 300, Gift wrap: 300 ppi]
