This design is a tessellation of the letter E (with the aligned repeat going head-to-foot) in symmetry group p2. Only a special E (with arm length 1½(7 - √33)) fits in a rectangular cell. Currently displaying a 3 colour version (the minimum map colouring) in shades of grey with white outlines. This triples and re-orients the cell and destroys the symmetry.
