When we were kids in Tidewater Virginia, fireflies were everywhere. We would capture them and put them in Mason jars, just to marvel at the magic of their luminescent light. Now, fireflies are in danger of completely disappearing. Street lights and outside lighting interfere with their ability to find one another for mating, and so their numbers decrease every year. We can help by turning off outdoor lights and letting them find their way by the light of the moon!
