About the Design

I created the main motifs in this design using a mixture of drawing by hand and tweaking with

digital tools.

I enjoy creating polka dots that are outside of the norm. I have never been much of a fan of simple, one-color polka dots but I think they are really fun when they have a decorative or textured fill. My theme in this design is May Day. In Scandinavian countries, the celebration of this day includes dancing around a Maypole. I decided the dancers might as well be polka dots too, which is why I did an aerial view. As the design developed, it also began to remind me of Cinco de Mayo, the Hispanic May celebration. Why? Because the dresses of my dancers seemed more relative to that holiday. Thus the design became symbolic of my Scandinavian heritage as well as my experiences while a bilingual educator in Texas. The design is also a color wheel, including both primary and secondary colors. I see this large scale of the design used for a fun duvet cover or throw blanket. It would also make a fun set of curtains in a playroom or at a dance studio! If you need another size, just ask! I can go smaller or larger. As the collection develops there will be some other colorways, and some other background versions. Each will be available in multiple sizes. There will also be some coordinates.
