Description:

Little Wasabi loves his Auntie Soy, best friend Ginger, and all his buds at Sakura Cafe. If only Ebi would stop pretending to be a pirate!

Coordinates with "Dim Sum Dragon Dance," and uses the same limited palette from the Dim Sum challenge (9-4-13), plus transparencies of those colors.

hootenannit says: Thank you very much, Heather! Do you remember the palette from the Dim Sum challenge? I thought it was tough to work with at first, but ended up loving it. ...And I wanted the kawaii dim sum and kawaii sushi to be buds, of course! :)

hootena...

hootenannit says: Jennifer and Marietta, thanks so much - I haven't tried kawaii in a long time, so it's even sweeter to see it well received! :) Marietta, the basic colors are from the restricted palette Dim Sum challenge in September 2013, so there may be quite a few Asian-inspired food designs in Spoonland with this color set. I will take credit for the flowers and characters, though! ;)

hootena...

hootenannit says: Thank you for the lovely compliment, Lynn, and thank you again, Mia! :) (BTW, the rest of the tip for proper soy/wasabi use was to dab wasabi directly on one side of the sushi and barely touch the other, non-rice side to the soy sauce, turning the sushi upside down first if necessary. This was only one of a long list of etiquette nudges, although some of the admonishments were things I can't imagine anyone doing anyway!)

mia_valdez

mia_valdez says: Oops !! I also did not know about soy sauce!! :s !!. Your design was already very cute. But now it has been wonderful and much more attractive! I love the combination of green with pink, little expressions in letters, and all the Sakura blossoms scattered around...suuuuper lovely !! ♡ ♡ ♡ :D

Posted over 1 year ago.

hootena...

hootenannit says: Thank you so much, Mia! :) Having the wasabi ball hug the soy sauce bottle like a small child was my son's idea. I was going to place the wasabi in a bowl of soy sauce as though it were a hot tub but discovered that putting any wasabi in the soy sauce is considered rude! (Eep! I've always done that.) I always learn something new with Spoonflower challenges... ;)
