all kinds of people at breakfast time. I started to
The soon I saw this breakfast theme, I thought it would be nice to give you a little sneak peak of all kinds of people at breakfast time. I started to draw buildings, going from fantasy castles to apartment buildings to a hodgepodge of all kinds of houses. I ended up drawing my own house, which is a very simple 30's townhouse. I thought it would make a nice repeat with the pointy roof every 2 or 3 houses. But I didn't like the repeat, so I started to cmd+X all the things that didn't need to be there and there it was: a 'windows and doors themed breakfast fabric'. I liked it but I couldn't really part with the illustration of my own house. That's why I decided to use both designs for a cut and sew placemat. About the house: it's situated in Gouda where houses tend to 'sink' because the ground is very humid and soft. That's why there are cracks in the wall and all the windows are lobsided. The girl in the attic is me of course, drawing until the crack of dawn, having coffee for breakfast. I incorporated some of my other Spoonflower designs in the curtains. It's a very simple cut and sew placemat. Just cut them out, use one design for the front, the other for the back, and some bias tape to finish the edges. You'll have 1 placemat on a fat quarter of linen cotton canvas, 4 on a yard (obviously). Or 3 placemats on a yard of quilting weight fabric (I recommend using some other thick fabric between the 2 layers). I will also upload the back of the placemat as a separate design to make tablecloth. With a breakfast table like that, who needs coffee?
