Description:

The creation of Carnival and Merdi Gras was to celebrate the harvest before fasting to honor the abundance of the harvest and the unseen forces thought to have assisted in delivering the bounties of life to the people.

The creation of Carnival and Mardi Gras was to celebrate the harvest before fasting to honor the abundance of the harvest and the unseen forces thought to have assisted in delivering the bounties of life to the people. As with most sacred celebrations, very few today understand the real reasons for the seasons. With popularity comes comercialism and soon the ideas are burried under a pile of cheap plastic beads and trampled shoppers. We are the only ones who can ever take back the sacred. As individuals we choose who, what and how we honor. Will we find ourselves drunk and helpless in the gutter of Bourbon street, or trampled at the bottom of a Black Friday pile up? Or will we use grace, love and compassion to celebrate what the universe has provided? Our choice. Our Karmic footprint. Our responsibility.

whimzwhirled says: Thanks ladies for checking out my new fabric and what it means to me. Each year, more and more people seem to buy into the corporate mania of comercialism, chipping away at the initial reasons behind all our celebrations. The celebrations formed to pull communities together in celebration of all our efforts added together and shared.

house_of_heasman says: I never knew that! Thank you so much for doing this. I love learning new things every day. Your design is beautifully created! The colours and spots that reverse themselves, the little bunnies carrying that HUGE carrot, the scary mask smiling cynically, the faint reflection of the 'frame' on the table top...... just lovely.. it makes me want to put some music on and start dancing. :^D ~ Sylvie

anniedeb says: You are right, Janiece, about very few people understanding the reason for different celebrations and it's too bad because celebrations' histories are always so rich. I like your mask and then just beneath, the bunnies carrying the carrot. Nice contrast. Enjoyed reading your notes.
