Print inspired by the children's book The Secret Garden with flowers, vines, leaves, and an old key.

This print was inspired by one of my favorite childhood books, The Secret Garden. I have included a key and various flowers mentioned as being in the garden.

I drew this in pencil, then colored it with oil pastels. After coloring and blending, I gave all the elements a black outline. I then scanned in the pages and had to fix the repeat a bit, but I have not changed any of the colors. I did however, reduce the scale to half of the original illustrations.

The print appears slightly off on screen, but it does line up.

tallulahdahling says: Oh! This is GORGEOUS! I love the colors, the "primitive" style, and the way it printed up. I also love "The Secret Garden" and knew what this fabric was about before you told me, as soon as I saw that old-fashioned key!

modgeek says: The colors are more vivid in person than photographed. Any lines that appear in the background of the print preview do not print. I think I'm going to leave the colors as they are, and not change them.

modgeek says: Thanks Victoria and chickoteria for your wonderful comments! I will definitely wait to change colors (if I do at all) after I get a swatch printed. Hopefully the colors will be just as rich when printed.

victorialasher says: One of my favorite books also. Your drawings are just gorgeous and the rich colors achieved with the oil pastels are beautiful. I think I would get a swatch printed before I changed the colors.

modgeek says: Thanks, Jo and Rhonda! I had fun working on this print, and rereading parts of the book.

rhondadesigns says: The trailing vines and pretty flowers in your "Garden of Magic" make an enchanting fabric design! "The Secret Garden" is one of those special, inspiring, books that I also love.
