A picture of Christ praying, rendered in a typewriter font. The text is from the hymn "Go to Dark Gethsemane" and the design is sized to fit a yard of the quilting cotton. The text which forms the picture is as follows: "Go to Dark Gethsemane, all who feel the tempter's power. Your Redeemer's conflict see; Watch with Him one bitter hour. Turn not from His griefs away: Learn of Jesus Christ to pray." Other neutral grey / black and white designs can be found here.

weavingmajor says: Thanks Ronny and Victoria! <P> Ronny - I used Photoshop and put a photograph of our church's window very faintly (33% opacity) on a layer below what I was typing - then I knew exactly how dark to make the type, how close to space the letters, when to switch from dark to light, etc. After I finished I toggled back and forth between seeing the photo plus text, and just the text, so I could see where I needed to tweak. I ended up copying and pasting the text layers several times one or two pixels over to darken them (and then erasing the copies where it needed to be lighter.) It isn't too hard that way - but yes it needs a lot of patience. For me I found it very meditative and calming (paste the phrase, adjust letterspacing, paste the phrase, adjust letterspacing) so I didn't mind the work. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do - it's fun to play with!
