About the Design

Featuring hearts, roses, swallows stars and butterflies...a celebration of our relationship with

tattoos and each other in a Classic tattoo colourway

When I turned 21, one of my gifts was to have a tattoo done....I was living in Cape Town at the time and we adventured off to the dock area to a tattoo parlour...dressed in pale Chinos... Docksiders and Polo shirts....it was like stepping back in time....all grungey and dark and smelling of tobacco and sweatiness. Every inch of the walls were covered as if with peeling wallpaper crammed with bold and faded tattoo designs in the style of past decades, the paper on which they had been drawn the colour of ancient navigation charts. I chose a snake chasing a sparrow design and took a seat in a well worn old school leather covered barber chair. The pain was indescribable. Halfway through, a burly bunch of leather jacketed Hell's Angels burst in loudly. By now I thought that I would pass out and asked the guy to leave off the sparrow which did not really make it any less painful as it still had to be coloured in...An element of my tattoo has been partially hidden in this design in memory of that gift... If you are planning on purchasing wallpaper with a large scale design, one tip is to add 12 inches to half of the rolls that you are ordering in order to match up the repeat when it comes to hanging the drop so that you are not short of wallpaper when it comes to finishing your wall. The other way in which you can make it work is to take the trimmed off piece at the top edge of the wallpaper and add it to the bottom edge as you go. I found a brilliant clear and informative set of videos on you tube at this address if you need a good guide. If the link does not take you there, search for Arte Walls which will take you to their fantastically helpful channel. It is so worth it.....the results speak for themselves....Enjoy ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lTeTyssCqA Any offcuts that you do end up with have can be used creatively to make labels or cover storage boxes or greeting card crafts...go and create wonderful things !
