I love fabric, sewing and creating, and Spoonflower allows me to combine all these loves. I live in Midcoast Maine, where artists dwell aplenty. So I guess I fit right in! And my husband Dean really enjoys designing fabric too, so that's a plus!

Description:

This memorial to the Confederacy was carved into the side of Stone Mountain, a massive granite monolith near Atlanta, Ga., from 1923 to 1972.

Officially known as the Confederate Memorial Carving, this beautiful artwork, which is said to be the largest high-relief sculpture in the world, features the likenesses of Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis and Confederate Army Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. Note: The man who began the carving work in 1923, Gutzon Borglum, abandoned the project two years later due to a conflict with the project's managing association. He quickly moved on to a smaller but perhaps better-known project: Mount Rushmore! The carving work on Stone Mountain came to a full stop in 1928 and didn't resume until 36 years later with a new artist and crew, finally reaching completion in 1972.
