Van Nijmegen was a ceiling and wall painter contemporary to Dutch painters like Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals, etcetera, but much less known (i.e. only in the Netherlands). To prepare for his monumental works of art, chimney pieces and ceilings for example, he used to make botanical studies. I find these aquarelle sketches surprisingly timeless, evergreens in every sense of the word! Courtesy: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/
