Description:

Meaning "Galloping Horses" in Malay. It is a traditional dance using flat horses made from woven bamboo. Originating from Java, Indonesia.

This traditional dance, with the dancers straddling the bamboo horses, comes from the Javanese people of Indonesia, and was brought to Malaysia during a period of migration a long, long time ago. Known as 'Jaran Kepang' in Indonesia, there can be instances where the dancers are induced into a 'trance' by the presiding shaman. However in Malaysia, (more specifically in the Southern region), Kuda Kepang is only performed as a formality and as entertainment in ceremonies and cultural shows.

ravenous says: Hahaha... I sort of got used to looking at them without looking at them. It was when I researched for the contest that I discovered legs are part of the design all along!
