Originally a very small painting only a few inches in size, this work from the 1600s, depicting primates and avians, has a delicacy of color and detail that amazes, considering that it's evocative of James Audubon but came a good century and a half before his work. Inspired by the painting's intricacy and the just-shy-of-pastel yellows, oranges, and greens, I developed a fanciful repeat with light, soft colors that avoid being cutesy, making this design optimized for home decor and older children's fabric. Note that the background color is hard to pin down - more blue than yellow, as in a very pale mint.
