This design ⇑ is mudcloth strips with symbolic designs. If the online sources are accurate and I've comprehended them correctly, these panels represent the Spoonflower story.

• The central panel has concentric circles which stand for family and community - in this case the family idea which led to them building the Spoonflower community.
• The panels next out from this central feature contain: a chevron cross, representing a cushion pillow and standing for wealth and luxury; triple parallel lines, representing a spindle; and my own addition of some stitching. Spoonflower is quite a luxury product and many people do indeed make cushions! The spindle clearly has something to do with textiles and the stitching is for the sewing element.
• Further out still are the panels with the calabash flowers - which stand for prosperity.
• At the edges are the zig-zags which are supposed to have something to do with an iguana's elbow and stand for good fortune. I'm unclear about the lucky connections for that one but I'm rather partial to such critters, so they got included anyway.

I left out any mention of superior wives, farmers and warriors etc.

Currently displaying a version in very traditional mudcloth colours of yellow ochre / mustard, red ochre / rust, rich brown, black and white. Other colours, stylings, sizes and orientations are available on request and you can even ask for a custom mixture of designs.

sef says: Oops, checking back above, the iguana elbows were "good fortune" (of an unspecified kind) rather than prosperity (which is the calabash flowers). Not that that helps to explain what's so fortunate about an iguana or its elbow! :-D

sef says: The thing is that the iguanas are American rather than African and don't even have stripes on them quite like that! Iguana ownership(?) is also not the most obvious sign of prosperity (and I didn't come across a proper explanation for it). But since the symbol apparently does mean prosperity, it was worth including.

su_g says: Lovely colorway, great idea and I love the explanation. I can see how the zig-zags are like an iguana's elbow (same shape) and I'm surprised that you couldn't fit one into the Spoonflower story Sef (when they are prosperous they will have many iguanas or some such??). Melanie's comment made me laugh, and as I wasn't in the top 100 either I feel I'm in good company...

sef says: No, I'm way down on the cool kids scale. I wasn't even in the last top 100.
