About the Design

This design is supposed to imitate the base fabric that was used on Padmé's Travel gown.

This design is supposed to imitate the base fabric that was used on Padmé's Travel gown. I've digitized the embroideries from photos of the original gown, embroidered those with my embroidery machine and then used photos of those embroideries to create this ditigal fabric. So while it LOOKS like embroidery, it's "just" printed, mock embroidery. Note that you can best see what I describe from now on if you switch the view between Test swatch (closeup, which is what you initially see when looking at this page), Fat Quarter (a more zoomed out view showing half of the fabric) and 1 yard (full view just so you can see how the pattern is laid out on the fabric)! A vertical stripe with the 'butterfly/eagle' design is running down the very center of the fabric and - cut in half - along the sides of the fabric so you can lay out your sewing pattern better. Also, both selvage sides of the fabric have the 'cross trim' design which is needed for the hem of the skirt. You can just cut those off from the fabric, and when making the gown, use the cut strips as trim to decorate the hem. The overall size of the pattern is very close to that of the original gown and was calculated using proportional measuring of the actresses' real height compared to a full-length photo of the original dress. A coordinating fabric for the cape and cuffs with a large-scale medaillon embroidery, a 'bubbles' fabric for the sleeves, a 'plain' fabric for the hood as well as a "fans" brocade imitation for the cloak are available at my Spoonflower store (http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/bonnie_phantasm) as well; you can find them easiest by browsing my themed fabric collections (http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/bonnie_phantasm?filter_action=collection&info_action=&nav_action=all&shop_selection=all_collection&sub_action=new_profile), then select the "Travel dress" collection. This fabric, if you want to replicate the original gown, works best in Organic Cotton Sateen, which is why I recommend ordering this design in that material quality. The width of the fabric design is laid out for the 56 inches wide Organic Cotton Sateen! So if you decide to have it printed on any other, less wide, fabric, it will be cut off on the right side. I do recommend to order this and the base fabric for the dress in the very same material quality, since the colors tend to print slightly different when using different fabrics - and you want the colors of the sleeve cuffs / cape and the base dress to match perfectly. In case you would like this fabric in a different color scheme, don't hesitate to send me a message! If you were always wondering how different colors print on the various fabrics that Spoonflower offers, please do have a look at my website where I have quite a few comprehensive photos of color swatches printed on various fabrics!
