Handdrawn lace inspired by my favourite luxe feminine stockings. In the early 2000s, I was obsessed with an Australian fashion designer called Alannah Hill. All the clothes were lace upon lace, silk, flowers and frou-frou. The shops were red and pink salons frothing over with sequinned dresses, feathered hairpieces, and lacey stockings, attended to by red-lipsticked pink-rouged doll-like sales assistants in 1940s styled heels. I loved how feminine it all was, and was an avid collector of patterned stockings to go with the look. I probably had more than 30 pairs and I wore them all the time – even two at once by layering purples lacey nets over burnt orange pantyhose. So for me, my design ‘Lace Romance’ reminds me of all those amazing lace garments and pretty stockings.
