The fifties were a time of cheerful futuristic fantasy in "googie" architecture, graphics, and cars. Thankfully, many of those things survive, Cities like Detroit, which had its heyday in mid twentieth century, then went through an economic bust that stopped urban renewal, are treasure troves of that mid century modern fantasy. In neon and florescent, they shine a beacon of optimism back to the space age, baby boom, and Buck Rogers modernity. These signs aren't specifically from Detroit. I made them up out of signs I have seen all over the USA, and set them in flamingo pink, bright yellow, and turquoise, which were favorite fifties colors. (file wx265-ch, #7888427)
