By day I am an upstanding mosaic designer for New Ravenna Mosaics on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. By night I am a superdork drawing whatever weird things pop into my head. By morning I'm exhausted.

The Jack of Hearts was playing with sharks, instead of playing gin rummy. At first it was grand, till they bit off his hand, and then things got real chummy. ( a cut paper cautionary tale, featuring the royal court)

rhondad...

rhondadesigns says: Ahhh! I see that the Sharks were sharp players and came up trumps in this piscatorial poker game! No doubt the Joker saw that the play was too Wild for him and chose to fold and quit playing while he was ( and had!!!) a head! This left the one-eyed Jack, now one-handed, with Five Hundred reasons to wish that he'd also cut his losses and stayed on board the royal yacht with the rest of the royal court! My Great-Grandmother always did say that cards were the Devil's playthings and folk who were ensnared by games of chance would come to a sticky end! Cean, your design is superb! The creative concept is brilliant and it is fabulous in it's realisation! I think that it has heaps of potential for use by innovative crafts people.

ceanirm...

ceanirminger says: thanks pinksodapop and Kelly! The face cards turned out to work perfectly for my idea, they all have vague worried/ concerned expressions already, so throwing one in with a bunch of sharks required no expression manipulation!

weaving...

weavingmajor says: oh, excellent! I'd wanted to do something with playing cards but none of my ideas had anywhere approached this level of magnificence. I love how you've posed the royalty in and on the boat - love the spade-fish - the royal seaweed - the gorgeous card-back shark border on the bottom - it's all so fun!

ceanirminger says: Thansk all! The discussion over on the flickr forum of card sharks vs. sharps must have gotten the images and the thought of scissors in my head, so I ran with it. My husband thinks it was the ultimate desecration to cut up part of a pack of playing cards, but I had fun doing it and watching him squirm.
