After some requests, I designed the stripes from my Dance All Day one yard skirt pattern into yardage. It's a mirrored repeat, so if this is printed on one of the wider fabrics, like Cotton Voile (great drape!), you could cut one yard of fabric in half along the mirrored center, sew the two halves side to side, and end up with enough fabric to make a size M-L skirt.

vanillabeandesigns says: What a fantastic idea! Love the photos of the finished skirt. Glad to see something made out of the cotton knit - it does look perfect for certain types of apparel such as this skirt. Such a fun and happy fabric!

katrinazerilli says: And the other side! All that was needed was some elastic a little smaller than my waist, and a sewing machine. Didn't even use pins or an iron. Super easy!

katrinazerilli says: Very happy to have finally made skirt out of this - it's been too long! This is what one yard of the knit cotton looks like. Cut in half, and then each of those halves was cut, one a little shorter than the other to make the layers. I actually made it a medium when it should have been a small - a yard really gets you a lot of fabric! Could also have been 2 separate skirts.

katrinazerilli says: This is what one yard in the knit looks like, cut in half. This was you can have a twirly skirt with very little sewing effort. I'm just going to sew the halves together and add elastic at the top. Doesn't even need to be hemmed!

katrinazerilli says: Thanks, Su_G! I didn't know that skirts were usually cut on the long grain. But I didn't want the repeat to just start and stop again abruptly, the way it would if the stripes went vertically. That way if someone wants 3 yards for a really ruffled skirt (even though they will have to cut the fabric down the long way) it's at least possible. I'm hoping to save up enough money to buy a couple of yards and make this happen so others can see. :)

su_g says: I do like this as yardage and I have a suggestion: to have the stripes run vertically down the yardage (instead of, as well as crosswise???) since skirts are normally cut on the long grain (i.e. so the stripes run up and down the body & the skirt rather than around - which makes us look wider than we need - this is the dressmaker's perspective...)
