The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company placed this ad in the October 20, 1928 issue of the Pacific Rural Press weekly magazine, in an attempt to talk farmers into having telephones installed on their farms. How receptive rural residents were, to having a phone, I could not say. But my city slicker mother (who would not even be born until 13 months after this ad ran) reports that part of her teen popularity (so add another dozen or so years to the date of this ad, and change from rural America to Brooklyn New York) was that her family had a telephone while many other neighborhood families didn't. Today we look at not having a cell phone as being a resident of some quaint and backward world. So, imagine the modernity of having a party line wall telephone in your farm, back in 1928.
