This lining was used in the Fourth Doctor's greatcoat he wore throughout Season 18. Two coats were created for the show, the first had matching maroon lining throughout and was used for 'The Leisure Hive'. The second coat had this emerald green lining inside and became the main coat for all the subsequent stories. Only the front lining was done in this green checkerboard fabric, the rear and sleeve lining was kept as the original maroon colour, hence two yards of satin should be sufficient. 'Given Tom’s sense of fun, I felt I couldn’t have just a plain plum lining, so I found a lovely piece of green and black fabric in a shop in Oxford Street.' -June Hudson.
