Description:

after making various sized globes from my first fabric, I decided my favorite sizes were the nine-inch (23 cm) and the juggler (3" or 7.5 cm). A fat quarter makes one nine-inch and one juggler, a yard makes four of each; a yard of the wider fabrics have an extra of each.

**I don't recommend the Poplin for globes, as the Poplin is very stiff and unstretchy - my experience is that the globes turn out wrinkly. Kona is my first choice, though the knits and the sateen work as well.**

other size globes are available here

weavingmajor says: updated Dec 2012 with white seam allowances rather than blue - this will work on the more transparent Kona and Basic cottons without seams showing through.

weavingmajor says: thanks Victoria! Gosh, I never even thought to enter this in the bag contest. Probably just as well since I don't know how to write (or use) proper sewing directions!

victorialasher says: Gosh, I never told you how brilliant I thought the idea of making a purse from this is! seeing a different purse with the globe in the bag contest made me decide to check and see if I had commented on it. Glad I checked. Just remember, you did it first; and it's cooler because it's an actual globe.

weavingmajor says: ha ha Su - you had me panicked for a minute - I just trusted what Fernygirl said about Tasmania and didn't look it up myself! When I made the globe I didn't think about all the political issues - it has sure been an eye-opener to read about the changes each year and who recognizes what country's sovereignty or not - eek! So I was glad to hear you were just teasing. And yep - over here we're guilty of always forgetting about Guam and Puerto Rico and the like!

su_g says: That handbag is so neat! But what's this I hear about Tasmania being part of Australia? (Old Australian joke... we frequently forget Tassie even in official stuff put out by the govt...)

weavingmajor says: Feb 2012: Two more corrections made to the globe, thanks to a globe-makinggeography teacher! Tasmania is now colored to reflect the fact that it is part of Australia, and Brazil is spelled the correct English way instead of my preference for the more romantic Portuguese spelling. Thanks so much Fernygirl!

rhondadesigns says: This is a brilliant way to further utilise your excellent globe design, Kelly. I am one of those people who carry a handbag that weighs as much as a suitcase, because, if I don't have something in the bag, someone will need it!
