Victorians were very big on pineapples. Though I wasn't able to find a specific name for the style, I think you've seen the 1880's through 1900's machine made furniture that has big clunky lathe turnings for legs or bedposts. And sometimes on the top you find a friggin' pineapple. Why were they so enamored of pineapples? Dang if I know. Maybe Spongebob Squarepants can explain it. When I looked at the checkered centers and leaf sprays of this art I instantly envisioned that butt ugly antique furniture from my grandmother's house. These paisleys look like stylized pineapples as much as the ones in wood ever did. So, can I interest you in a pineapple? (file L74L2 #1224743)
