markIngs, I imagine them as distinct personalities!
I live in Brooklyn, and of course we have many avian residents during the winter months. My favorite are the pigeons, who have adapted to city living so well. I love their wide variety of colors and markings, as well as their resilience. They are truly urban personalities, and I enjoy imagining stories for them, as they go about their lives, just as I do, eeking out an existence in Gotham, and rubbing shoulders with a wondrous assortment of characters. The design is inspired by the simplicity of Scandinavian style. The retro color palette is inspired by a tea towel I found in a thrift shop which is probably circa 1950s or early 1960s. It features a barnyard of delightful animals, in a simple block-print style with only five colors: yellow, brown, cotton candy pink, olive green and turquoise on a white background. I tried to capture the delightfully cheerful vintage style of my two design inspirations for this folksy tea towel. It would be a charming -- and useful -- holiday gift, as well as a fun and easy sewing project! Enjoy, and I wish you excellent “pigeon watching” next time you visit the city!
