up, arms raised to the heavens.
We have each known family members or friends--or have even gone through it ourselves--who have dealt with breast cancer. When my mother went in for surgery (again), I began working on this piece, but I put it aside when she seemed to be cleared and the crisis was past. Then, a woman that I have known since we were both 11 or 12 told us all that she had tested positive. My stomach still gets queasy thinking about it. That was a couple years ago, and thank God she seems to also have had a successful treatment. The figure in this print represents all women--any color, any shape, any size. All of us say a silent prayer when we go in for those mammograms every year. And this figure seems to be appealing to Heaven. But it also looks like she is barely touching the ground! Is she about to take flight and join that amazing sky full of color and light? This fabric would look amazing used as scrubs, or for bandanas, scarves and pillows. Tote bags, T shirts, as well.
