This toile de jouy gives a historical view of Nieuw-Vennep, situated in the Haarlemmermeer in The Netherlands. The Haarlemmermeer is a polder, its formation was ready in 1852. Schiphol airport is built in the Haarlemmermeer, the major city is Hoofddorp. The pictures show the three different churches, a windmill, the old train station, the weapon of Haarlemmermeer, St Antonius school and Cruquius, which was one of the three pumping stations used to make a polder from the lake. Between the pictures you may recognize the shape of The Netherlands. The location of the Haarlemmermeer is indicated. The colors used for this design are pale yellow and dark red, to give the fabric an 'old' look. The original artwork was made by me with a roller tip pen. The inspiration were old pictures of Nieuw-Vennep.
