Mason bees are also known as Crown Bees, Orchard Bees, and the solitary bee. They are gentle and seldom sting. They outperform honey bees as pollinators. One Mason Bee can pollinate 12 lbs of cherries, a task that requires 60 honey bees. They build mud daubed nests in reeds and tubes and you can purchase bee homes for them to hang in your garden. This is one interesting little bee! I loved reading all about them and they are known for their metallic beauty!
