The Red Hat Society is an official and unofficial social group of women of all ages who assemble for various purposes wearing red hats, and purple dresses. The societies were inspired by the poem by Jenny Joseph which begins: "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me ..." This is the Scottish tartan only version of this design.
