Zealand.
New Zealand is a small country with 2 main islands, called the North Island and the South Island, silly names but you know where you are and there is no confusion! New Zealand is in the Ring of Fire so we have a lot of earthquakes and many volcanoes. Mt Ruapehu is in the middle of the North Island and is flanked by his volcano friends Ngauruhoe and Tongariro. These volcanos sit on a high desert plateau covered in alpine tussock. The main road that takes you across this is called the Desert Road. As you drive through the Desert Road you can see these layers as you pass by, and their beauty has always captivated me. It is satisfying to have worked on conveying the undulating beauty and subtle colouring of this beautiful part of my homeland.
