About the Design

McKim Studios has created this full color Panel to honor Ruby Short McKim's 1st published Quilt

Pattern, Quaddy Quiltie, in 1916.

You may be familiar with Ruby Short McKim’s quilt and needlework designs. She is widely recognized for her body of work, as well as for her book "One Hundred and One Patchwork Patterns" published in 1931. Her quilt pattern series were syndicated in newspapers all over the country–weekly or monthly. Ruby won a contest held by "The Kansas City Star", and the blocks were published as a series, co-copywrited with author Thornton Burgess, famous for his Bedtime Stories. The Quaddy Quiltie blocks were originally designed for embroidery. The simple lines made it easier for children to learn the art of embroidery. McKim Studios has colorized these blocks with hand-dyed wool, and created this 32" x 40" panel for you to use for a quilt or any other creative project you desire. Blocks cut 8" x 8", and the designs are approximately 6" x 6". Quaddy Quiltie, also known as the “Bedtime Quilt”, was published in "The Kansas City Star" in 1916. This was her first, and probably most famous quilt series. McKim Studios is owned and operated by Ruby's youngest granddaughter, Merrily McKim Tuohey.
