Naupaka, is a Native Hawaiian plant. It has a variety that grows in the mountains and another that grows near the ocean. There are many versions of the mo`olelo or story that is shared about this plant. A short version tells of two star-crossed lovers who could not be together due to another’s jealousy. Both the mountain and ocean variety bloom half flowers representing the two lovers. When the two flowers are brought together they are made whole. For me, this plant signifies love, family, and the support we give no matter where we may be.
